Bay Mir Bistu Sheyn in Latin Letters

I could not find this anywhere in Yiddish oyses, so this must do for now.

Bay Mir Bistu Shein (Yiddish)

Composer: Secunda, Sholom

Lyricist: Jacobs, Jacob

Yiddish Lyrics

Kh'vel dir zogn, dir glaykh tzu hern
Az du zolst mir libe derklern

Bay mir bistu sheyn,
Bay mir hos tu heyn,
Bay mir bistu eyner oyf der velt.

Translation

I will say to you so that you would hear
"I love you."
When you speak with your eyes,
I would fly with you wherever you wish -
I do not care where."
When you have a bit of sense
And when you show your childlike little smile
When you are wild as an Indian
Even if you were a Galitzyaner,
I say: It doesn't bother me.

To me, you are lovely,
To me, you are charming.
To me, you are the only one in the world.
To me, you are lovely,
To me, you are charming,
To me, you are more precious than money.

Many pretty girls Wanted me for a husband
But among them all I chose only you.

Notes: the clip here is from a great CD Oy, It's Good by the Shirim Klezmer Orchestra (here sung first in Yiddish, then in English). In his book "The Essential Klezmer," (published by Algonquin Bookds of Chapel Hill in 2000) Seth Rogovoy reports it was originally written for a Yiddish theater production "I would if I Could," in 1932.

Al Hanisim to copy, paste and print on 2 pages

This really does not belong on my Yiddish blog because it is Hebrew, not Yiddish, but it's a convenient place to put it for now.

Al Hanisim reduced here to print on 2 pages):

וְעַל הַנִּסִּים וְעַל הַפֻּרְקָן וְעַל הַגְּבוּרוֹת וְעַל הַתְּשׁוּעוֹת וְעַל הַמִּלְחָמוֹת שֶׁעָשִׂיתָה לַאֲבוֹתֵינוּ בַּיָמִים הָהֵם בַּזְּמַן הַזֶּה

v’al hanisim v’al hapurkan v’al hag’vurot v’al hatshu’ot v’al hamilkhamot she’asita l’avoteinu bayamim hahem bazman hazeh

And for the miracles and for the wonders and for the mighty deeds and for the salvations and for the victories that you wrought for our ancestors in their days and in this day

In the days of Mattathias son of Yohanan the high priest, the Hasmonean, and his sons, when the evil kingdom of Greece stood against your people Israel in order to make them forget your Torah and violate your laws

You, in your enormous mercy, stood up for them in their time of great need, upheld their cause, judged their case, and avenged their oppressors.

You delivered the mighty into the hands of the week, the many into the hands of the few, the impure into the hands of the pure, the wicked into the hands of the righteous, and the degenerates into the hands of those who cling to your Torah

And afterward, your children came to the Holy of Holies in your House, and they cleansed your Palace and purified your Temple and they kindled lights in the courtyard of your Sanctuary and they established these eight days of Hanukkah to give thanks and to praise your great name.  ###
